(670 The Score) The Cubs on Tuesday optioned right-hander Keegan Thompson to Triple-A Iowa.
Thompson, 26, has been one of the most trusted relievers in the bullpen, posting a 2.21 ERA in 27 appearances. He has made one start this season. The Cubs could stretch him out at Triple-A to open the possibility of using him as a starter later in the season.
In other moves Tuesday, the Cubs recalled left-hander Kyle Ryan and right-hander Cory Abbott from Triple-A. Ryan has an 8.31 ERA in five appearances for Chicago in 2021, while Abbott has a 6.35 ERA in five appearances.
