(WEEI) Red Sox manager Alex Cora has found his next bench coach.
Cubs third-base coach Will Venable will become Cora's next right-hand man, a source said. Venable interviewed for the Red Sox's managerial job before Cora secured the position.
The Red Sox hadn't confirmed the hire as of early Tuesday evening.
The 38-year-old Venable is considered a rising star in the coaching ranks, having manned the Cubs' first-base coaching box for two season before moving over across the diamond in 2020. Prior to his on-field duties, Venable had been a special assistant to then-Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein in 2017.
Venable played both basketball and baseball at Princeton prior to a professional baseball career that included nine years in the big leagues. An outfielder, he last played in 2016.
