(670 The Score) In a departure from the norm, the White Sox will start most of their weekday home games in April at 6:10 p.m., an hour earlier than usual.

The reason for that is twofold, chief revenue and marketing officer Brooks Boyer told the Mully & Haugh Show on Tuesday morning.

“That’s something we wanted to try, understanding that sometimes in April and into May, you run into some sketchy weather,” Boyer said. “Tomorrow, there’s sketchy weather. Trying to get the extra hour may do one of two things. We have sat here in the past where, ‘Man, we wish we had the extra hour. We may have gotten the game in.’ Other teams have tried this because of weather. Also, to see if this is something where maybe fans enjoy it, the fact that it’s earlier. So if you do get a game in, it’s over at 9 o’clock instead of 10 o’clock. Which when you throw a commute in, it certainly makes it hard for families to be able to get out here. So balancing weather and making this a little test case to see if it’s something that works for fans is something that we wanted to try. Some other teams have done it, and it’s been effective.”

The White Sox host the Mariners in their home opener Tuesday afternoon. Their home opener is traditionally in the afternoon. As for the rest of April, the White Sox will play five weekday home games that start at 6:10 p.m. Once the calendar turns to May, their weekday home games will usually be at 7:10 p.m.

The White Sox have started 2-1.
