CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hundreds of people have been sorting through and finding all sorts of gems at a huge rummage sale going on at a working farm in the southwest suburbs.
It's the 18th annual rummage sale at The Center, an interfaith, non-profit religious group that includes a working farm on 127th and Southwest Highway in Palos Park.
"We've got what we call an old-fashioned department store. We've got a little bit of everything and anything. About 250,000 items. Everything has been donated," said Development Director Mark Walker.
Nancy Girdwain paid $30 for an old lamp that has a few inches of fringe on the shade.
"This is a vintage lamp. It's brass. I don't know what year it is, but it looks like the 50s, but I still think it's cool," Girdwain said.
Pam Johnson said she returns to the rummage sale every year and she declared her time at the rummage sale a success. She said she spent about $70 and bought everything from pictures to housewares to a mini-frig that will go on her deck.
Greg Lombardi bought several items including a bicycle.
"It's $12. It's multi-speed, a little rust on the wheels, but it's going up to my summer home so my grandkids can enjoy it and if they tear it up, I won't feel too bad," he said as he laughed.
The Center's rummage sale continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mark Walker said the annual sale generally raises between $20,000 to $25,000 for the organization which was founded in 1932.
