ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - An OB/GYN at one of the St. Louis region's largest hospital systems says a new mother got a "two-for-one" deal after getting the COVID-19 vaccine while she was pregnant.

Katelyn Huber told her story about how her daughter, Nora, was born with COVID-19 antibodies because she got the vaccine during her pregnancy. Dr. Gregory Potts of Mercy Clinic Women's Health says this isn't a unique situation.

Huber said she was scared and nervous after becoming pregnant during the pandemic. Before getting vaccinated she spoke with her doctor and other nurses who all said the "risks of COVID far outweighed any risk associated with the vaccine."

She says she's now telling her friends who are now pregnant about her experience and hopes they make the right choice for their families too.

"Pregnant women who are getting the vaccine are not only protecting themselves but it has been shown that the antibody that’s produced crosses over and is with the baby,” said Potts. "We find it in the cord blood, we find it in babies. So we’re kinda getting a two-for-one here. We’re getting protection for mom and at least some temporary protection for the baby."
