The clip contains the close up image of the show's infamous animatronic doll's eye, as a “2” suddenly appears in the iris. It ends as the doll's voice recites the ominous song. That’s it. But the minimal creepiness of it matches the show’s dark heart.

While it was pretty obvious the massive success of the show would mean a second season, this teaser confirms it.

Back in January, as AV Club noted, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said that the “Squid Game universe has just begun” and that there would “absolutely” be a second season.

And even as far back as last November, creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed there’d be another season.

But considering the mysterious nature of the show, and the fact that Netflix recently went public with some subscription changes, well, you never know. So just to be sure, Hwang Dong-hyuk released a statement along with the new teaser.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year,” he said. “But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show."

"And now, Gi-hun returns," he continued. "The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su."

He concluded, "Join us once more for a whole new round."

If you recall, Gi-hun is the main protagonist of the show, The Front Man was the leader of the masked villains, and Young-hee is the enormous animatronic doll.

One major reason that proved a second season of "Squid Game" was inevitable? Viewers spent more than 1.54 billion hours streaming the Korean show in the first 28 days on Netflix.

But as far as a date for the premiere of season two, that’s as mysterious as the mini-teaser.
