NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WBEN) - There are two more people who died in Niagara County as confirmed cases of COVID-19 reach 529.
Two men, ages 81 and 73, died over the weekend from coronavirus. The two men had underlying health conditions, according to the county department of health.ta[;e
About half of the residents who contracted coronavirus have recovered from the disease. However, there are still 246 active cases of the disease in Niagara County.
The county did not release its current hospitalization data, though Niagara County Chairwoman Rebecca Wydysh said that hospitalizations have increased within the Western New York region that also includes Erie County.

Niagara County Public Health Director Dan Stapleton said that he believes that the region is still in the surge and has not plateaued yet.
"People need to stay home," Stapleton said. "I know it's hard when you want to be outside. You can still be outside but don't be where the population density is high."
