57 people have died in Erie County as cases exceed 1,500

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Officials in Erie County reported on Friday night that four more people have died because of coronavirus, bringing the total number of dead to 57 and that the total positive cases in Erie County have surpassed 1,500.

"These people are not just numbers on a report," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said. "They were moms, dads, sisters, brothers, and so much more. I offer my deepest condolences to all who've lost a loved one."

The City of Buffalo remains the most heavily impacted community with 575 cases. The zip code 14215, which is Buffalo's East Side, has most number of confirmed cases at 111.

New York State has approximately 175,000 cases as of Saturday morning.

The number of hospitalizations increased by 290, compared to daily increases of more than 1,000 last week. The number of intensive care patients was actually down slightly for the first time since mid-March.
