BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Erie County Sheriff's Deputy who was convicted of three misdemeanors has resigned from his position.
Ken Achtyl resigned as deputy according to a statement from the sheriff's office. He submitted a letter to the sheriff's office. Sheriff Howard discussed employment options with the county attorney's office and also reviewed past dismissals of employees at the sheriff's office.
Achtyl was convicted last Friday of official misconduct, reckless assault, and falsifying business records after his illegal arrest of Nicholas Belsito at a Buffalo Bills tailgate on December 3, 2017. His trial lasted five days. Achtyl was initially placed on leave following an investigation into the incident. When Achtyl was arrested, he was suspended without pay.
