Buffalo, NY (WBEN) With news of a new owner for The Buffalo News, comes many questions for those both inside the News ranks and outside the building in the community as well. Lee Enterprises is taking over the News and there are numerous questions about whether there will be drastic changes at One News Plaza.
Tan hopes there will be no drastic changes immediately. "There is nothing we have heard that suggests there will be any happening in the immediate future, but long term we just don't know," says Tan.
Davison warns Lee could cut some things readers have had for years. "We could see a reduction in Gusto, Prospectus, Buffalo Magazine," warns Davison, but believes Lee will give a thorough evaluation of what news and products resonate to subscribers, and stick with those.
Davison says Lee also owns newspaers in Glens Falls and Auburn, creating opportunity. "This could create a chance to syndicate news across upstate New York and focus on statewide news, which would be a positive," says Davison.
He anticipates digital content will grow under Lee Enterprises, but that doesn't mean the print edition won't go away, right away. "Many of us still wake up and read the paper, that's something unique about our market. The factor will be the cost of paper, production, delivery," notes Davison.
