BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Western New York Land Conservancy unveiled its winners for the best ideas about a design for the DL&W Corridor in South Buffalo.

The corridor is an abandoned 1.5 mile trail connecting downtown Buffalo with the waterfront through three neighborhoods. Officials plan to repurpose the area with a former rail line into a new nature trail and greenway.

"We believe this project will bring life to a place that has enormous potential," WNY Land Conservancy Executive Director Nancy Smith said. "Frederick Law Olmstead spoke of creating places where the beauty and magic of the natural world would bring people of all ages and backgrounds together as a way to strengthening our shared experience of community and our democracy. We want this to be that kind of place."

The conservancy announced winners of its juried design competitions with "All Aboard! Reclaiming Hill & Del" by New York City-based landscape architecture firm MNLA winning first place. The community selected Buffalo resident Matt Renkas' "The Del: Connecting and Reconnecting" as first place. Check out all the winning designs HERE
