BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Wednesday is the biggest night of the year for the Buffalo Bisons.
The 25th annual Independence Eve celebration at Sahlen Field will feature a postgame performance by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, giveaways, and what the organization is touting as its largest fireworks show of the season.
Brad Bisbing, the team's Director of Marketing and Public Relations, said that baseball is synonymous with Fourth of July.
"It has been around for so long and has dealt with the ebbs and flows of life, war, and depressions," Bisbing said. "It's as much a part of our culture both between the lines and outside the lines. On top of it, it's the generational aspect. You could have three or four generations of baseball at the ballpark tonight. Fans that remember Luke Easter or Bobby Meechum as a player in the early nineties now bringing their kids to compare Bobby Meechum with Bo Bichette in the infield."
Maestro Paul Ferington is coming out of retirement to perform for his 19th concert at Sahlen Field. This year's set list includes a BPO rendition of Aretha Franklin's RESPECT, 2001: A Space Odyssey to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 25th anniversary of the Lion King, the 20th anniversary of Toy Story, and others.
Gates open at 3:30 p.m. for Wednesday's single-admission doubleheader while first pitch is at 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the doubleheader can be purchased HERE
