Buffalo celebrates "Pride Week"

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Local leaders on Tuesday celebrated the beginning of Pride Week in Buffalo.

The ceremony was marked by the hanging of two flags in support of the LGBTQ community. Dignitaries and advocates also promoted Sunday’s annual Pride Parade, which will travel down Elmwood Avenue from Forest Avenue to Allen Street beginning at noon.

“It began as a march and as a protest,” Ari Moore, a former Buffalo Police Officer and LGBTQ activist, said. “It began as a civil human rights issue. We celebrate 50 years of stonewall. Let us not forget all those who are not with us today to witness this greatness.”
