CBP Buffalo: Seizures and Arrests on the Rise in 2019

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Field Office of Customs and Border Protection says there was an increase in narcotics seizures and arrests in Fiscal Year 2019 compared to the same period a year ago.

The Buffalo Field Office, which covers 16 ports of entry in New York, effected 2,914 narcotic seizures – over a 190 percent increase, and over 750 arrests – over a 30 percent increase from fiscal year 2018.

Firearms seizures also increased. "Not so much from people in WNY heading to Canada, but people from out of state. Part of the message we've been delivering is if you try to leave a country with a firearm and you're returned and you don't have a proper NYS pistol permit, we turn you over to state and local authorities, where those guns are being seized," warns Bowker.
