LANCASTER, N.Y. (WBEN).....Tom Sweeney keeps getting asked the same question.
"When is the next Sabres' watch party?"
The question is a positive byproduct of an April 23rd Sabres' outdoor watch party that Sweeney helped organize along W. Main Street in the Village of Lancaster.
The watch party attracted an estimated 2,500 people - many of whom came from outside of Lancaster.
"I had more than a few people come up to me and say 'they didn't realize what was here'," Sweemey said.
Because of logistical reasons, the Village of Lancaster is only hosting its watch party when the Sabres' play their first away game of each series.
"We didn't want to compete with the home games and the Sabres' watch party," Sweeney said. "This works out better."
William Schroeder, Village of Lancaster mayor, said one of the objectives of the watch party is to showcase the village.
"One of our goals is to bring people into the area and show off what's here," Schroeder said.
Both Schroeder and Sweeney said they want to stage more watch parties - like they have in the past for Buffalo Bills' games - and other special events.
"Sports is the draw but we have a very walkable village with a lot of good businesses," Schroeder said.
