Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WBEN) - The freezing rain conditions early Sunday were enough to send a Delta Airlines aircraft off the taxiway at Buffalo Niagara International Airport after a scheduled landing following a flight from New York's LaGuardia Airport.

The landing occurred without incident and during the trip down the taxiway, the aircraft slid into the adjacent grassy area.

No injuries resulted in the incident and the NFTA tells us 68 passengers and four crewmembers were onboard the aircraft.

"The weather and the icing is an issue for the airfield", stated NFTA Fire Department Chief William Major.  "It's one of the bigger challenges they have because it's tough to keep up with", added Major.

The plane was not damaged during the incident and the plane will be towed out of its location following some inspection by recovery and airport crews.
