Emaciated Dog Found in Garbage Tote

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The SPCA Serving Erie County is investigating the discovery of a dog found in a garbage tote on a frigid Tuesday morning.

The dog's temperature has gone up from 90 at the Buffalo Animal Shelter to 96 at the SPCA. "Once he's able to stand, we can start an examination and see what damage may have been done internally," says Browning. Normal body temperatures for dogs range from 101 - 102.5.

It's still hard to say if the dog is out of danger. "When they get to this level of emaciation, the first job is to get fluids in him," said Browning.  "We don't know how much damage has been done internally.  Once he is a little stronger we can do a full examination," she said.  Charlie is getting round the clock care right now.

Anyone who has any information in the case, or has seen the dog in the Walden-Bailey area, should call the SPCA Serving Erie County at 875-7360.  Ask for an Officer or Dispatch Operator. The SPCA does accept anonymous tips.

If someone wants to donate to Charlie's care they can contribute to the SPCA's Yelp For Help Fund.  It's designed to treat animals with extensive injuries and no owner to pay for treatment.
