AMHERST, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said he's "very happy" that New York State banned the single-use plastic bags at grocery stores but isn't committing yet to the idea of implementing a five-cent fee for paper bag use.
The state banned the plastic bags as part of its 2019-2020 budget but gave counties the option to "opt-in" to a five-cent fee on the use of paper bags.
Poloncarz said he expects people to begin using reusable bags because they don't want to pay a five-cent fee.
