BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The democratic commissioner of Erie County's Board of Elections is reminding you that this year's primary, and every year's primary from here on out, is in June.
This year's primary is June 25 after the New York State legislature voted to change the primary day from September to June.
"This really impacts city residents, and particularly the African American community and the minority community," Commissioner Jeremy Zellner told reporters on Monday. "We wanted to make sure everyone understands that and knows that, in many cases, this is the election. There is not a republican challenger and not someone they can vote for in the fall. So we wanted to, with this kind of unprecedented change in the election law...we wanted to make sure everybody understand's the polls will be open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m."

— WBEN NewsRadio 930AM (@NewsRadio930) June 17, 2019Zellner also said there will be early voting at 37 locations across Erie County, though they won't be available until the November election. In the City of Buffalo, there will be ten total locations.
"We'll have nine straight days of the ability to go vote on those days," Zellner said.
Next year's Presidential Primary will be in April. The congressional, state, and local primaries will still be in June.
Zellner said the changes have resulted in an expedited timeline for candidates for public office.
