Update: Stevenson Street Bridge reopened on Tuesday evening.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The ice jamming continued on Tuesday as more jamming was reported along Cazenovia Creek in South Buffalo.

The latest jam resulted in the closure of the Stevenson Street Bridge between North Legion and South Legion during the midday hours. City officials told WBEN that the bridge was closed as a precautionary measure.

"It will remain closed until flood waters recede and we can look under the structure to make sure there was no damage caused by the ice," Don Poleto, City of Buffalo Engineer, said.

Wood debris and brush litters the river and there is fear that it can cause harm to people or property if it moves quickly.

Hank Carlson, a Buffalo resident who lives near Cazenovia Creek, expressed his frustration to WBEN about the city's lack of using excavators to clear out the ice, something he said they did on Monday as a precautionary measure.

"People's basements can get flooded," Carlson said. "The ice could come over and start flooding the streets. The park is getting flooded because of the ice back up."

Carlson added that flooding damages as a result of an ice jam cost his family $4,000 last year.

Poleto said the city there was no talk about bringing the excavator in when the ice jam occurred but that it could change if the need arises.

"If they can do some good we'll bring them in," he said. "If I had a jam on one side of the bridge and open water on the other side, I might consider bringing an excavator in. There are a lot of variables I have to take into effect. If I start moving jammed ice from one section of the creek, it might affect another section of the creek. That's obviously something we don't want to do."

A second jam further upstream in West Seneca by Orchard Park Road could impact the one further downstream or spill over into the park.

"We'll keep an eye on things and we're working very closely with police, fire, and emergency services to ensure that we'll be ready to react when the situation arises."
