BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard reported the Sheriff's Office charged an Erie County Holding Center inmate with two felony assault charges, following an attack on an officer.
Just last week before noon on July 3, 23-year-old Khalil Muhammad was being escorted by a deputy back to his cell, when out of nowhere, he punched the deputy in the head. Additional officers responded to the scene and the inmate was subdued and placed back in his cell.
Following the incident, Muhammad was charged with felony counts of assault while confined in a correctional facility and assaulting an officer. Muhammad was remanded to the holding center for a parole violation when the attack occurred.
The officer who was attacked by Muhammad suffered a broken nose along with other upper body injuries and remains out of work. Muhammad is also facing administrative charges for the attack.
