HAMBURG, N.Y. (WBEN) - Mathnasium, a tutoring service with locations in Williamsville and Hamburg, plan to accommodate families whose children will be learning remotely to begin the 2020-2021 school year.
They will not be teaching the curriculum for students or even their Mathnasium curriculum during the two sessions. Instead, their goal is to keep kids off of their phones and focused on their work. Mathnasium will provide internet service for kids. However, kids need to bring their own laptop or device to accomplish the work.
In order to comply with health regulations, all children will be required to wear masks and bring in their own supplies such as pens and pencils. All students will receive a temperature check in the morning. There will be a 30-minute cleaning period in between the two sessions.
Enrollment will begin on Monday and there are only 14 students who are allowed in each session. It costs $1,200 per month for a student to be enrolled in the four-hour session in the morning and $900 for the afternoon session that lasts three hours. Carr said employee benefits may cover some, or all, of the costs of enrollment.
Anyone enrolled in the Prime Study Space will also receive a discount towards the Mathnasium after-school program, which will still operate four days per week.
"We understand that each family makes their own decisions," Carr said. "We're an alternative."
Food is not allowed in Mathnasium due to food allergies.
