BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Congressional representatives in Western New York reacted to the Tuesday night speech from President Trump about the partial government shutdown and the proposed wall along the southern border.

Congressman Chris Collins, a vocal supporter of President Trump, gave Trump an "A-plus" grade on the president's tone while echoing his statements about the need for increased border security.

"We care about the mothers and fathers crying for the loss of their child's life after a heroin overdose or the thousands of women sexually assaulted and used as pawns by human traffickers as they travel the dangerous routes to come to America for a better life," Reed said. "We should also never forget the lessons of 9/11 and the terror, heartbreak, and pain it brought upon our fellow Americans. Something just as horrific could happen by bad actors crossing our weak border."

Reed urged politicians on both sides to be proactive in finding a solution.

Congressman Brian Higgins said that the president made no case for a border wall.
