More than half of COVID-19 cases in Niagara County recovered

NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WBEN) - More than half of the people diagnosed with coronavirus in Niagara County have recovered from the illness, according to the latest update from Niagara County.

There are 294 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Niagara County. Of those, 151 people have recovered.


However, 17 people have died from coronavirus and another 14 are in the hospital.

1,391 people have been tested for COVID-19.

New York State reported an additional 474 deaths on Wednesday. Wydysh maintained that Niagara County has neared or reached its plateau.

"We remind you that all those guidelines for distancing are in place," Wydysh said. "Let's not make all the sacrifices we made these last few weeks not worth it."

Wydysh said she looks forward to seeing the reopening plan for New York State as presented by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, who was appointed to lead the reopening efforts locally by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
