JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WBEN) - The National Comedy Center in Jamestown is set to be designated by the federal government as the official National Comedy Center of the United States.

The National Comedy Center opened in Jamestown last August thanks to millions of dollars of investment from the state and federal government. More than 50 exhibits are in the comedy center including letters from George Carlin, attire from comedians like Rodney Dangerfield and Jerry Seinfeld, plus homages to Jamestown native Lucille Ball.

"It's part of the lands bill," Schumer said Friday. "I was able to, using the clout I have in the Senate, to get it in that lands bill."

The lands bill is scheduled to be signed by President Trump in a couple of weeks without any opposition.

Schumer said federal recognition will help bring more people and dollars to the comedy center. Its designation by the federal government will allow the comedy center to apply for money easier from public and private entities.
