BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Developers of the Queen City Landing project did not get the thumbs up yet from the Buffalo Common Council to begin construction of the 20-story building on the Outer Harbor.

A public hearing began Wednesday in one of the final steps the development group needs to begin construction on the project that would feature 200 apartments, two restaurants, and green space. Buffalo Common Council members did not vote on whether or not it would approve a green code variance for the project, which allows for new developments to surpass six stories in height.

We’re done here. The public hearing will remain open. Buffalo Planning Board will get a new PUD application, then public hearing with common council will continue. In short, we’re still weeks away from approval. https://t.co/DR9KCCuifm

The Buffalo Planning Board on Monday tabled the development group's PUD (Planned Unit Development) request. The developers, led by Gerry Buchheit, will have to submit a new PUD application that needs to be more "beefed up", according to Councilman Chris Scanlon.

"The PUD application needs amending and take into consideration the entire peninsula," Scanlon said during a committee meeting Tuesday. "They have agreed to do that."

Opponents of the project continue to express concerns about how it fits into the Outer Harbor. They worry it will have a negative impact on the nearby Tifft Nature Preserve, natural habitat, and that the Queen City Landing project does not fit into the mold of the Outer Harbor.
