Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Local record shops are preparing for a busy Saturday as Record Store Day returns.
What is Record Store Day?
"It started 12 years ago," said Phil Machener, owner of Revolver Records. "It was right in the time where CDs were dying out and a lot of record shops were closing. They wanted to do something to help nudge along some of these independent record shops."
To celebrate, Revolver Records and other record stores across the country will be selling special items to big crowds of collectors.
"The biggest thing is that there are hundreds of exclusive releases that come out on this day and you will likely not be able to find again, at least in the way that they come out on Record Store Day," Machemer said. "Whether it's a colored vinyl variation or even just a very limited release."
Machemer said that between his two Revolver locations on Hertel and Elmwood, he will have over 300 special Record Store Day releases.
