BUFFALO (WBEN) - Just 30 days from opening day, crews were hard at work putting the new "Sahlen Field" signage up at the ballpark on Tuesday.
"We are putting up the exterior signage on the ballpark that is now known as Sahlen Field," said Bison's Vice President/General Manager Mike Buczkowski. "There will be signs going up on the Oak Street side of the ballpark, the Seneca Street side, and the back of the scoreboard."
The Buffalo Bisons and Sahlen's announced the 10-year agreement back in December, although the monetary value of the contract has not been released.
Buczkowski says he's looking forward to the partnership.
"We're excited because, as we said when we announced the agreement - local people, great family, 150 years in business, a successful business," he said. "Hot dogs and baseball: what goes better than that?"
Joe Sahlen said the feelings are mutual.
"We always looked at it as a great opportunity to show off whoever's name was on the ballpark, and now that it's ours, it's a great feeling," said Sahlen. "We found out the Coca-Cola was ending, and we were pretty excited about that because we thought we had a pretty good shot at getting it. Pretty soon after that became available, we jumped all over it."
Buczkowski says this partnership will be a great fit because there's a lot of parallels between the Bisons and Sahlen's.
"We're looking forward to working with the Sahlen family and the company," said Buczkowski. "We have some exciting, fun promotions that we're going to do; we're going to have some fun with the connection - both promotions throughout the year and having some fun throughout the game. It's been really well received since we announced it, and we're looking forward to it."
