BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Seneca Nation continues to take a "wait and see" approach on the topic of legalized sports gambling across New York State.
"We're monitoring it," Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong, Sr., said. "We're just going to watch and see where it's at. We have our management team at Seneca Gaming Corporation that are aware of it. They've attended a few meetings with (Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Chairman State Senator Joseph Addabbo). They understand it. Once it becomes a legality, I guess the governor may see it as a constitutional issue. Once that's settled, we're ready to embrace it."
Armstrong said "it depends who you ask" whether or not Seneca Nation can implement their own sports wagering component at its three local casinos in Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and Salamanca. Regardless of the legality of it, Seneca Nation will wait for New York to make the call on sports gambling.
The biggest debate about sports gambling is about mobile betting. There are fears that mobile betting will take people away from casinos in Upstate New York.
"It's obvious that the mobile component of sports betting is the most profitable," Armstrong said. "We would embrace it. I guess the whole question would be where the servers are...(Mobile betting is where) the money is at."
