Amherst, NY (WBEN) - The SPCA is sharing another update on the dog that has captured the hearts of Western New Yorkers.

Gina Browning of the SPCA Serving Erie County said that Charlie, the dog rescued from a garbage tote in Buffalo last week, is still receiving intensive care from veterinarians.

"He's happy on the outside, still wagging his tail," Browning said. "His (blood) platelet levels are what concerns Dr. Chevalier, our Chief Veterinary Officer, the most. She's concerned that he can't get those up on his own."

Browning did say that there was some encouraging news on his blood platelet level Friday morning, but even with that there is a reason Charlie isn't taking visitors just yet.

"Unless we give him regular cage rest every time he gets up, we're concerned that bleeding could increase," Browning said. "So we're keeping him on cage rest right now."
