Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) A Town of Tonawanda Police officer has been suspended after the chief says the officer violated professional conduct standards after a January crash.

On January 19th, 2019 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Officer Howard Scholl while off-duty and operating his privately owned vehicle, was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Englewood Avenue and St. Johns Avenue, in the Town of Tonawanda. Chief Jerome Uschold says his administration began an internal investigation into the circumstances of the accident regarding standards of off-duty conduct and whether or not there were any violations of the law. That portion was sent to the Erie County DA's office.

Uschold says an internal investigation revealed that violations of professional standards of conduct and departmental rules and regulations did occur. Officer Scholl has been suspended without pay pending termination proceedings.
