Buffalo, NY (WBEN) After a hard fought campaign, Assemblyman Patrick Burke emerged victorious, fending off a challenge by West Seneca Supervisor Gary DIckson.
Burke has harsh words for the Dickson campaign. "The race that was run against me was awful, and I think it's a rebuke of that type of politics. And the Republicans keep trying, and they keep failing," says Burke. "it just doesn't have a place. Certainly, in a place like Western New York, we are the city of good neighbors, and I think that type of like the level of it, everyone understands what I'm talking about. It went too far, and and I think that cost them dearly."
As he enters a fifth term in January, Burke says there is a big priority. "Affordability is still the issue," contends Burke. "I carry a bill. the Fair Municipal Fair Acquisitions Act, and I really want to see that passed into law, and so that we have opportunities to have local control over the energy that we distribute in in this state, and it's a failure when we're just giving away so much to to utility monopolies. Like we can't just keep doing it the way we're doing it. And I think me and my colleagues are going to be focused on that in the next legislative session."
He says he and Karen McMahon, who also won Tuesday, will be co-deans of the Assembly delegation. "We're going to get important policies done, and there's some things that have been hanging over my head for a little bit, and I want to get them passed this next legislative session," says Burke.
A call to Dickson for comment was not returned.
