Amherst, NY (WBEN) - Another major plaza in the Town of Amherst could be in line for a new look.

The University Plaza retail center in Eggertsville along the border of Tonawanda and the City of Buffalo is for sale.

The 14-acre Main Street property, which sits an intersection away from the University at Buffalo's South campus, recently saw a 12% reduction in the plaza's assessment.

"There's got to be over 30,000 vehicles a day in that area," said Town of Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa. "It's just never really caught fire."

Phillips Edison & Co. currently owns the property, which includes a Tops market and the Dipson Amherst Theater.

"It is a cornerstone for the community in terms of having the Tops there and food available," Kulpa said. "I think for the Town of Amherst, we would like to see a new developer build off of that Tops and start to develop something that's a little bit more sustainable and mixed use that provides a heart for the community it's surrounded by."
