EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Village of East Aurora passed a law on Monday night which will ban the use of plastic straws and stir sticks at all restaurants beginning next March.

Lynn Kinsella of the Aurora Theatre said the board meeting was well-attended and it's agreed that the various groups want the environment to be taken care of, but she wondered if the law was necessary in the first place.

"We're all very happy that they downgraded the law to straws and stirrers but I think we would have all been very happy to work together," Kinsella said. "I don't really know if they needed to (make the law) because businesses had no issues with the straws. Many of the businesses locally are already taking steps to be more environmentally friendly. The challenge that many of them voices was that the current cost of many of these items are high but they're seeing that go down."

Kinsella said that there may be an increased cost at Aurora Theatre because of the straw ban. She hasn't committed to what option she will use once the ban takes effect next year.
