Another drop in local gas prices, but a bit of a gap between those local prices and the statewide average. The AAA reports an average gallon of gas in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metro area costs $2.31 - down two cents from last week. The statewide average cost per gallon is $1.86 - or forty-five cents less.
Business First reports that the state Labor Department received 55,000 unemployment filings from Erie and Niagara County combined over a two week period ending April 4th. For just the week ending April 4th, there were 26,632 unemployment claims filed from all of the Western New York counties. Over the past two weeks, 716,598 have filed for unemployment statewide.
