Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Edward M. Cotter, oldest active fireboat in the world, is back on the job.
The Cotter is active all year long. It's an ice breaker, that's our major duty," said Sixt. He admits that maintaining the historic vessel is a labor of love. "It's non-stop work." He has a dedicated crew of volunteers who also give a lot of time to the Cotter.
The work was done thanks to a 500-thousand dollar state grant from State Assemblyman Sean Ryan. Fire Commissioner William Renaldo thanked Assemblyman Ryan for securing the funding. "We have spent a little over 200-thousand dollars so far. We have more work to be completed here in Buffalo including plumbing, electrical and cosmetic work on the historic fireboat.
