Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A wintry weekend is unfolding for all of Western New York as Winter Weather Advisories and Lake Snow Warnings are posted for the region.

A complex weather system will impact ALL of WNY this weekend.  Lake Effect snow will organize mainly south of the Buffalo metro area Sunday and accumulate in excess of a foot in some localized spots in the southern tier through early Monday morning.


WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM ESTSUNDAYLAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM SUNDAY TO 4 AMEST MONDAY* WHAT...For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, heavy lake effectsnow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 14 inches inthe most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 50mph. For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation.Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and iceaccumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting ashigh as 50 mph.* WHERE...Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Eriecounties.* WHEN...For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, from 1 AM Sunday to 4AM EST Monday. For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 1 AM ESTSunday.* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snowwill significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditionscould impact the morning commute. Gusty winds could bring downtree branches, so isolated power outages will be possible.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditionsand visibilities.Periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will result in slipperyroads and limited visibilities.
