After a first presidential debate which was deemed a chaotic debacle, and President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and numerous other top Republican officials testing positive for coronavirus, expect the unexpected at Wednesday night's vice presidential debate in Salt Lake City.
In the hours after news of Trump testing positive, an official with the Commission on Presidential Debates last week confirmed the vice presidential debate would go on as scheduled.
Pence and Harris will be seated 12 feet apart - not standing as the Biden campaign had asked the Commission on Presidential Debates initially, according to Politico.
There will be plexiglass between Harris and Pence Wednesday night. According to Politico, Pence's team did not want it while Harris' team did. Pence's team came around to the plexiglass Tuesday night.
Kamala Harris also announced her guests for tonight.
In this week leading up to the vice presidential debate tonight, the health of the president has come under scrutiny as contradictory statements and confusion reigned about his medical condition after he arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last week for treatment - then left after three days to go back to the White House.
Vice President Mike Pence has been tested for coronavirus and he is negative thus far. So is Democratic nominee for VP Sen. Kamala Harris. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has also been tested numerous times since last week including this past Sunday.
The number of top Republican officials testing positive for the virus continues to grow. In addition to Trump and the first lady, Hope Hicks, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany are positive for the virus.
