The Buffalo Sabres were shut out by the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 on Monday night at KeyBank Center. It was the first time all season the Sabres failed to score in a game.
Philadelphia wasted little time scoring to take a 1-0 lead over the Sabres. Zack MacEwen crashed the front of the net and was able to chip the puck past Craig Anderson. The game's first goal came just over two minutes into the first period.
The Flyers capitalized on a pair of turnovers in the offensive zone that allowed the team to increase their lead to 3-0 over Buffalo in the opening period. Joel Farabee's ninth goal of the year increased the visitor's lead to two goals, while just over a minute later Noah Cates scored to expand the advantage to three.
Neither team was able to score in the second period. Buffalo was outshot by the Flyers 13-12 in the middle frame. The visitors enjoyed a 29-17 advanatge in shots on goal through 40 minutes, as well. The only penalty of the period was charged to Mattias Samuelsson. The Sabres were able to kill off his hooking minor less than a minute into the period.

Just under two minutes into the third period Wade Allison was able to chip in a rebound chance past Craig Anderson to extend Philadelphia's lead to 4-0 over the Sabres. Kevin Hayes was credited with the lone assist on the goal.
The Sabres lone power play in the game came with 6:30 remaining in regulation when a trio of players were called for roughing. However, Buffalo failed to beat Samuel Ersson on the man advantage. The Flyers' netminder recorded 28 saves for his first career NHL shutout.
