BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Despite all of the public controversy between the Buffalo Sabres and Jack Eichel, Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams said nothing was personal.

"We have to do what we felt was the best thing for our organization," Adams said during a news conference Thursday morning. We got to a point where this was the offer that we felt with the strongest we had had to this date and felt very good about it. We worked extremely hard for months and months and we were not going to compromise on what we felt we needed in return."

Eichel was traded Thursday morning to Vegas. In exchange, Buffalo acquired forwards Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch, a top-10 protected 2022 first-round pick, and a 2023 second-round pick. Buffalo also sent the Golden Knights a 2023 third-round pick as part of the deal.

Why didn't things work out with Eichel in Buffalo? Adams told reporters you would have to ask Eichel.

"There was a frustration for him and it all built up over time," Adams siad. "That's where he got to. I don't know exactly and I don't want to put words in his mouth about why things didn't work out per se. Things happen for a reason and I was very clear to him that we needed to build this organization with people who are dying to be Buffalo Sabres."

Buffalo will play Vegas twice this season: Once in February and again at KeyBank Center on March 10. It's unknown whether Eichel will be ready to play with Vegas by then.
