BUFFALO (WBEN) - "I hope the jury does the right thing - the evidence is clear that Police Officer Chauvin should be convicted of killing George Floyd - there's now doubt about that in my mind," said Mayor Byron Brown Tuesday.

The country now anxiously waits for the jury to decide the fate of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, who's been charged with second-degree unintentional murder, among other charges.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he's "praying the verdict is the right verdict." He also confirmed that he called Floyd's family on Monday to offer prayers and said he "can only imagine the pressure and anxiety they're feeling."

Brown also shared a message with the Buffalo community as the nation awaits the verdict.

"Regardless of what the verdict is, I think people in the City of Buffalo should reflect their feelings in a very peaceful manner," said Brown. "Certainly, there will be frustration if Police Officer Chauvin is not convicted, but I think people should be peaceful in expressing their displeasure and expressing their pain, their anger, their frustration, recognizing that as a community in Buffalo, Erie County, and Western New York, we have to work together to make our community better, stronger, and safer for everyone."
