Buffalo Schools ready for full return in September

Dr. Kriner Cash

BUFFALO (WBEN) - During a lengthy Buffalo School Board meeting Wednesday, the School Board passed a resolution that will allow the district to move forward with a full return starting September 8.

Masks will be required for everyone regardless of vaccination status, which caused some debate, resulting in a 7-2 vote on the resolution.

"It's very important that we look at and adhere to the layering approach to safety and protection of all of our staff and students, and that's what this resolution essentially supports," said Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash.

Some other important aspects of the reopening plan include:
-A required three feet of social distancing
-Physical Education classes should be conducted outside in acceptable weather, but when classes are inside, students will still need to be masked
-The district will participate Section VI Varsity sports
-The district After School Program is on hold until further notice
-Field trips will not be scheduled at this time

"This is a very serious matter and continues to be a serious matter," said Cash. "We want to do all we can to protect our children and staff at this time."

The resolution also "authorizes the superintendent to make modifications to the COVID-19 Safety and Protection Protocols to the extent he, in consultation with the BPS Medical Advisory Team, determine it safe and appropriate to do so..."

The district is urging all adults associated with students, including staff and parents, to get vaccinated.
