Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Packaging company Cascades is closing its Niagara Falls plant in early October, with 123 people set to lose their job. The plant will stop production by September 3rd. The plant has been in operation for 38 years. Cascades has another location on Walden in Lancaster that will stay open. 220 people work at that facility, according to Business First.

SUNY Niagara, the former Niagara County Community College, is launching a CDL training program this coming Monday at the college's main campus in Sanborn. The school says there's a growing need for commercial drivers and the program will provide a pathway to a reliable career.


Restauranteur Russell Salvatore is donating $50,000 to the renovation of the Lancaster Opera House. The full renovation will cost $1.5 million and includes the addition of a new sound system and lights, and a new LED marquee.

Community Bank will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new West Seneca location this afternoon at 5. The bank is located at the former Seneca Mall site.
