Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Lockport City School District is teaming with local community groups for a job fair July 16th and 17th at the district's Family Empowerment Center on Canal Street. The district is looking for bus drivers and monitors, food service staff, substitutes and more. Aramark Food Services, Ridge Road Express busses, Boys & Girls Club of the Northtowns and YWCA of the Niagara Frontier are working with the district on the event, as all four groups provide services to Lockport students.
The Bilingual Educator Pipeline Initiative has launched at Buffalo State. The program will focus on recruiting education students that speak multiple languages, with the goal of keeping them at local schools once they get a teaching job. Funding for the program is coming from the state.
People Inc. has cut the ribbon on a new 12-bed respite house for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Located at 80 Acacia Road in Amherst, it's the region's only certified respite program for people with IDD that will be open 24/7.
