Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Department of Homeland Security Job Fair we've been telling you about since last Tuesday is off. It was scheduled to take place at the Buffalo Convention Center next Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz released a statement Thursday saying "I do not believe [the Convention Center] should be used to support recruitment efforts that are inconsistent with the values we have repeatedly expressed as a welcoming community." He also cited a concern over possible protests and civil unrest. The County Executive's full statement can be found below.
College students are heading back to school, and D'Youville University is welcoming its largest freshman class in its history, up 22% from last Fall. Classes begin next Monday, August 31.
Ice cream maker Wells Enterprises cut the ribbon this week on its new employee center and production expansion in Dunkirk. The $425 million, multi-phase project is expected to be completed in 2028 and create 270 jobs.
