BUFFALO (WBEN) - It's no secret that President Trump has made a concerted effort to delegitimize the mail-in voting process as the nation inches closer to the November 3 election.

However, local congressmen want to ensure that Western New York residents feel secure about voting by mail.

"I just ran recently in New York, and I accepted the results there," said Republican Congressman Chris Jacobs. "I think our Board of Elections officials did an excellent job under really challenging circumstances with COVID."

In fact, Jacobs stated that more funding should be allocated for the USPS.

"I've also been supportive of additional funding for the post office to ensure that folks have assurance that the resources will be there to make sure ballots are arrived on time to the voters and back to the polling places so we can have have results and have them quickly."

Democratic Congressman Brian Higgins simply wants the media to stop paying attention to the President when he calls out the mail-in process.

"I think people should stop paying attention to him," said Higgins. "He advances no evidence to support the crazy assertions that he makes about voter fraud.

"The fact of the matter is soldiers in the Civil War voted by mail," Higgins continued. "There is a great tradition with the United States Postal Service of reliability, of dependability, of trust for over 200 years."
