19-year-old accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother

Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged for, allegedly, stabbing his 57-year-old grandmother to death on Monday in the Town of Tonawanda.

Miguel Castro Jr. was arraigned Monday afternoon in Tonawanda Town Court and faces on one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class "A-I" felony), as well as one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A misdemeanors).

It is alleged that at approximately 12 p.m. on Monday, Castro Jr. stabbed his grandmother with a knife inside of his residence on the 1100 block of Parkhurst Boulevard. Prosecutors are accusing Castro Jr. of intentionally causing the death of his grandmother.

Castro Jr. allegedly committed the crime while three juveniles were also present inside of the home.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Castro Jr. is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026 at 2 p.m. for a felony hearing. He was held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, Castro faces a maximum sentence of 25 years-to-life in prison.
