A Monday 'soaker' kicks off the work week across the Buffalo-Niagara and Western New York region, with a steady rain persisting into the afternoon hours, National Weather Service forecasters say.
"We're certainly not going to feel like it's summer," NWS meteorologist Steve Welch tells WBEN of the first full day of summer across the region. "Temperatures today in the mid 60's," Welch adds, with rain filling-in area-wide.
The rain will add-up to make for some soggy yards and gardens.
"We're expecting a general half-inch to an inch of rain, a little bit higher amounts to the south, that will continue on through the afternoon," Welch says.
Soaking rain for all of western and north-central NY today. A widespread 0.50-1.00" is expected through tonight for most areas. Steadier rain is expected to end this afternoon into early evening. A few showers followed by mist and/or drizzle will be possible tonight. pic.twitter.com/To0QUroThc

And it's not just your imagination, it has been a soggy spring across the region, with multiple heavy rain events during the season.
"We're actually well above normal for the spring, generally about 7 inches above normal," Welch tells us. "We had quite a wet March and April."
While today will be cool and wet, Welch does promise more summer-like weather is in the offing.
"We generally moderate to near-normal for the rest of the week, and then next week it will slightly start to warm up to a little bit above normal into the 4th of July."
