UPDATE: (Feb 16 8:48am) An Amber Alert has been canceled for 17 year old North Tonawanda teen. Stephnie White found safe - according to Pennsylvania State Police.
North Tonawanda (WBEN) - An Amber Alert was issued for a missing 17 year old from North Tonawanda just before 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.
North Tonawanda Police say 17 year old Stephnie White was abducted by 50 year old Michael Mesko around 7 p.m. Monday in the area of 908 Niagara Falls Boulevard.
Shortly after the investigation began it became evident that Stephnie did get into a car owned by Michael Mesko whom she had a full stay away order of protection against. The child was taken under circumstances that lead law enforcement to believe that she may be in imminent danger of serious harm. It was suspected that Michael had taken the victim and may have been headed out of state.
Mesko was released from Niagara County Jail on February 10, where he was being held on two counts of second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual act.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the F.B.I. agents assisting in the investigation were notified the suspect vehicle was at a rest stop off of RT 80 in Harrisville, Pennsylvania. The vehicle was quickly located by Pennsylvania State Police where they located both parties inside. Michael Mesko was taken into custody and both parties were transported to a local hospital for observations. At this time there is no further update on the medical condition of either party.
The North Tonawanda Police Department, Niagara County District Attorney's Office, and Federal Authorities are in the process of completing their investigation of the incident. Currently he is in Federal custody and State charges will be forthcoming. No further details will be released at this time pending the conclusion of the investigation.
