Amherst Police capture ball python outside business

Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - Amherst Police Department responded Monday evening to a rather atypical call of a reptile outside of a business.

Responding officers and Animal Control Officer Griffin were able to successfully capture and obtain a ball python on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Amherst Police took the python to the local SPCA Tuesday morning.

This python is most likely someone's pet that got loose. According to avianandexotic.com, ball pythons are one of the most popular snake breeds to keep as pets.

Erie County SPCA's Gina Latucca says that they python appears to be okay and in good health, he will be with the SPCA until they find the owner of the python and if unclaimed, theysnake may go through adoption or be placed through a special process.
